CSS

CSS is a programming language that stands for Cascading Style Sheets and is a mainstream language used in the World Wide Web along with HTML and Javascript.

It is a style sheet language used for creating the visual presentation of a web page written in a markup language like HTML.

CSS only gained mainstream adoption on the WWW in the 1990’s, prior to this the options to visually present pages were limited to HTML which greatly limited the creativity on websites as HTML wasn’t designed for dynamic sites with columns, sidebars and complex visual elements.

When CSS become a common language, developed began to seperate website content (written in the HTML) from presentation (written in the CSS). Whilst this transition in development tool time to perfect, CCS really was responsible for a move away from the ugly websites of the 90’s to the beautiful and engaging websites we enjoy today.
