Backend, refers to a core aspect of software development which is focused on the core functional logic and operations. Backend development usually consists of three core elements, namely a database, a server and an application.
Effectively, backend is the portional of any application that is 'unseen', not the interace that users interact with but the smarts behind the front end display that is the brains and logic behind the platform.
A back-end developer's main responsibility is to ensure that the data requested by the front-end system is delivered in an effective way to make the application function. Back end developers are responsible for maintaining most of the technology stack.
